What are we learning in Third Grade?

Third grade musicians are building their song repertoire and have begun reviewing concepts from last year.

We are reinforcing beat and melodic contour and are excited to being exploring further into topics of music theory.  It is crucial to have a solid foundations of these two concepts prior to moving forward in our curriculum.

Students in third grade learned about Jerome Kern and his influence on music for the stage and screen.  We had a classroom and school visit from the Austin Jazz Workshop.  Students participated in improvisation and listening activities.

Several classics in third grade include Cut the Cake, Wallflowers, Olive Twist, Rocky Mountain, Knock the Cymbals and Tideo.
