Second grade musicians at Reilly have been studying so and mi! There are many so-mi songs in our repertoire that we have studied and sing each music class. Students built awareness of the interval between so and mi through kinesthetic, aural and visual activities.
We reinforced our learning through several means, including singing so and mi from our hand sign ladder in our classroom.
Next, we improvised our own melodies and sang them using hand signs. We wrote our motives on the staff using traditional notation and then were able to read and perform our melodies!
